Quilt Show Success

Quilt ShowMoutere Hills Community Centre was proud to host this year’s Quilt Show produced by the Motueka Quilting Connection. Our Woollaston Room provided a wonderful backdrop for the stunning works of art on display for the three day exhibition. A tremendous advertising effort by the group meant that this event was one of their best attended and attracted approximately 900 visitors to the centre, many for the first time.

Perfectly organised from start to finished, the Quilt Show also included quilt competitions, a raffle and a number of thoughtful quilt presentations including the new Motueka Community Hospital and even tiny quilts for the Nelson Neo-natal Unit. Guests also enjoyed a cuppa and home-made biscuits kindly provided by the Motueka Quilting Connection members.

QuiltsThe Quilt Show prompted Moutere Hills to offer a basic quilting course at the centre which is now open for enrollment. The course will be instructed by Gayle Ewers. Places are limited but please be in touch if you are interested in signing up!

Thank-you again to the Motueka Quilting Connection and also to event convenor, Bev Dyke, for such an incredible effort and lots of hard work! We thoroughly enjoyed having you at the centre and the feedback from the locals was absolutely fantastic.

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun!

Nelson Giant and the TeamOur holiday programme is coming to a close but what a week we’ve all had. The 28 children in attendance each day have enjoyed a host of new experiences, made new friends and are an amazing group to spend time with. The interaction within the group, despite the large age range of 5 to 13, has been wonderful from start to finish. Our days have been full of laughter and fun and we have the instructors to thank for the many new things we’ve learnt this week. The children and staff might be a little exhausted at the end of the day but no harm in playing too much! We even made front page news today – check out the Motueka Golden Bay News

On the last day we look forward to our morning session with Rangers Rugby Football Club, followed by a grand Treasure Hunt and a special closing session by Whenua Iti Outdoor Pursuits Centre in the afternoon.

We would like to extend a huge thank-you again to TDC, Creative Communities and COGS funding for making this programme possible.

Holiday Programme in Full Swing!

in News by newsgirl on April 20th, 2009No Comments

fullswingThe first Moutere Hills Community Centre Holiday Programme is off to a flying start. Twenty-six children from Mapua to Spring Grove and everywhere in between gathered in Upper Moutere today to enjoy a fun-filled day of activities. The programme started with a marvellous repertoire from Charlie and Mark from Whenua Iti Outdoor Pursuits Centre who warmed up the group of 5 to 12 year olds with a two hour session of team-building and educational games that were well received by all.

Following an impromtu kiwi cricket challenge in the break, the children were excited to partake in a sunny afternoon of  golf. Thanks to the expert guidance and cheery presentation by pro-golfer Chris Pugh from GreenAcres Golf Club, their swings developed in next to no time. Everyone picked up many tips and tricks and the afternoon culminated in our very own golf competition.

Thanks to all those attending and to the brilliant staff and instructors on board. We look forward to a wonderful week!
