What’s on Board at Moutere Hills?

in News by newsgirl on September 4th, 2009No Comments

The current Moutere Hills Community Centre Board consists of seven enthusiastic and dedicated members of the local community who meet every month to discuss strategic matters and the future direction of the Centre. Our board members are Steve Mitchell (Chairperson), Alan Archibald (Treasurer), Jeanette Bent, Pat Hyatt, Beverley Mockett, Janette Stevens and Tim Finn.

The Moutere Hills Community Centre has undergone exciting developments since it was opened nearly four years ago as a volunteer-run facility. It is now a vibrant and growing business with several paid staff including a part-time Facility Manager, Michelle MacNeil. The Centre is governed by a community elected Board of Trustees who met regularly over the last 12 months and focused on the mission to facilitate the best possible social, cultural, recreational and sporting opportunities for the wider Moutere Hills community. read more

Hammering in the Holidays

in News by newsgirl on July 16th, 2009No Comments

The Moutere Hills Winter School Holiday Programme was another success story. This holiday, twenty-two children from Upper Moutere, Mahana, Ngatimoti and Lower Moutere enjoyed an action-packed week partaking in a whole host of activities including arts and crafts, basketball with a Nelson Giant, golf lessons, dance with Darnz Hip-Hop Salsa Crew, drama, gymnastics, tennis, soccer and volleyball.
Jasmin at workOne of the highlights of the programme was a series of leather workshops with Claudia Kaltenstadler, a local saddler and leather artist. The children, ages 5 – 10, had a wholesome and unique experience thanks to the generosity of the Motueka Arts Council who funded the project. Leather craft is an ancient art form and saw an enthusiastic revival at Moutere Hills over the week!
The hammers were certainly a huge “hit” and the end result was wonderful keyrings and coasters for the artists to take home.
We are already taking names for the next holiday programme which will run October 5th – 9th and have some great new activity ideas up our sleeves including a Japanese theme day to include calligraphy, sushi-making and origami!

Soccer Season Update

Midgets in action...

The soccer season has got off to a great start this year. We have two midget teams (6 and under), two 7th grade teams (one all boys and one all girls), and one team each playing 9th, 10th and 12th grade.

The midget teams play locally with Mapua and Motueka and rotate around the three grounds. The 7th grade games are always at Appleby and as the players get older they travel further afield and play teams from other areas. The older teams play in a league format and also a knock out cup and so far this season they are doing well in both. Go Rangers!

This year we are proud to have a new 3/4 pitch at the Community Centre to accommodate our 12th grade team. This means that for the first time they can play their ‘home’ games at home so come along and cheer them on! In time we may even have a full size pitch for senior play as the club continues to develop and grow in size.

If you are interested in playing soccer or would like more information please contact the Community Centre or phone Nettie on 5432 227.
