New Year! New resolutions, and plenty going on!
Any new year’s resolutions about getting active and getting in shape? Then put yourself on the right track with the Way 2 Go initiative and join us at Moutere Hills for a host of sport and leisure activities this term.
What better way to spend a Monday night than learning groovy salsa moves or just for the ladies, our new indoor netball group will start up soon. Our popular small group personal training sessions (also for the ladies) continue this term on Mondays and Tuesdays promising a total body workout. In addition to the netball, social activities include badminton, table tennis and volleyball.
Term activities with qualified instructors are pilates (both ladies and gentlemen welcome – a fantastic opportunity to tone muscles you never knew you had on a Wednesday morning), salsa and karate.
There are also various groups of mid-week tennis available for all abilities. For the children we have hip-hop, ballet/modern jazz, gymnastics, karate, tennis and volleyball to choose from! Check out the schedule tab on the homepage for details.
Athletics Day 2008
An historic event on the Moutere Hills calendar that was started to celebrate the end of World War 1 once again attracted a big crowd. The Moutere Hills Athletics Day was established in 1919 by a group of teachers and has been held every year since. Event coordinator and local resident Craig Goodman did an amazing job of bringing it all together as he does tirelessly year after year. Craig first competed in the event in 1967 and has been organising it for the past 15 years.
More than 700 students from six schools throughout the Moutere Hills district competed at the event which took place on Saturday 8th November. While there is no overall winning school on the day, students compete to win trophies in individual events.
Moutere Hills Community Centre was delighted to see a great attendance from parents and supporters who took part in races, tug of war and generally made the day a memorable one for all who took part. Everyone also enjoyed a presentation of speeches and wreaths in conjunction with the Returned and Services Association.
A big thank-you to Upper Moutere and Dovedale School parent volunteers who worked hard to supply food and beverages throughout the day to raise funds which will be put back into the event next year.
Lost Generation Day
Upper Moutere Tennis Club hosted their “Lost Generation Day” on Sunday 2nd November. Open to ages 18 to 60, the day provided a fun afternoon of activity and a chance for people to dust off their racquets and get back on the courts. There was free coaching and handy tips from our resident coach, Vanessa Mairs, fun-filled hitting with the ball machine, social doubles games and even a delightful afternoon tea. It was a brilliant Sunday afternoon out and everyone from young to old had a blast trying out the demo racquets kindly provided by Wilson.
