What’s on Board at Moutere Hills?

The current Moutere Hills Community Centre Board consists of seven enthusiastic and dedicated members of the local community who meet every month to discuss strategic matters and the future direction of the Centre. Our board members are Steve Mitchell (Chairperson), Alan Archibald (Treasurer), Jeanette Bent, Pat Hyatt, Beverley Mockett, Janette Stevens and Tim Finn.

The Moutere Hills Community Centre has undergone exciting developments since it was opened nearly four years ago as a volunteer-run facility. It is now a vibrant and growing business with several paid staff including a part-time Facility Manager, Michelle MacNeil. The Centre is governed by a community elected Board of Trustees who met regularly over the last 12 months and focused on the mission to facilitate the best possible social, cultural, recreational and sporting opportunities for the wider Moutere Hills community.

Professional governance training was provided for Board members to develop skills and greater understanding of the importance of the role. A comprehensive manual is now available for new comers to ensure they have all the necessary planning and policy documents available. As part of its work the Board developed a strategic plan for the Centre. This will provide guidance when monitoring outcomes and developing policies which support the mission.

With the growth and development of the facility, the Constitution needed updating. This has been completed and is now with the Registrar of Incorporated Societies for ratification. When it comes into effect the revised Constitution will provide a stronger direction and formalised compliance.

The operation of Moutere Hills Community Centre has been recognized nationally as best business practice and the preferred option for rural multi-use facilities. It is owned by TDC and stands on Council land but its development has been a magnificent community effort. This is evidenced by the comprehensive weekly programme now operating and the number of individuals, businesses and groups using the facilities.

The results of this year’s election of Board members will be listed here following the AGM on 29th September, 2009.
