Sarau Festival – Giving Back to the Community
The organising committee of the 2009 Sarau Festival is delighted to announce that the Moutere community will benefit by almost $4,000 from this year’s festival.
Donations have been made to the following community groups in recognition of their direct involvement in making the day flow smoothly: Upper Moutere Fire Service; Country Kids; Upper Moutere Youth Group; Fighting Fit Boxing; Rangers RFC. This includes a large projector screen presented to Moutere Hills Community Centre for community use.
Proceeds came in the main from four general sources – generous sponsorship from the blackcurrant industry and many local businesses, gate takings, bike race entries and stallholder fees.
Setting up a festival such as Sarau is a costly exercise, and therefore monies are being held in the Sarau Festival bank account to ensure the event can be staged in 2010. Sponsorship is critical to augment this deposit and while likely, cannot be guaranteed.
Thank you to everyone who helped, attended and enjoyed the occasion, making it a great success.
